Unlike some other level measurement systems, the clamp-on ultrasonic level meters from Katronic can operate
completely non-invasively.

The meters are able to determine the level of liquids using a similar ultrasonic transit-time measurement method as employed by the KATflow clamp-on ultrasonic flow meters.

The Sonometer and Sonocontrol instruments are installed on the outside of the vessel without being in contact with the liquid.

The greatest advantage of this mounting technique is the fact that the instruments can easily be retrofitted to existing tanks, vessels and cylinders without compromising the integrity of
the application.

Katronic offers three different types of ultrasonic level measurement instrumentation.

1. Continuous level measurement

The sensors of the Sonometer range of clamp-on ultrasonic level meters are mounted on the bottom of the vessel in which the level has to be monitored.

The instrument provides a continuous output of level, which can be equated to volume.

The ultrasonic level meter can also supply an alarm output for low level or to indicate overflow.

In addition to instruments for permanent installation, there are also portable and Ex certified ultrasonic level meter versions available.

2. Point level control

The Sonocontrol ultrasonic point level measurement devices are mounted on the side of tanks.

They can be installed on most common vessel types and are used for high or low level alarms, overflow alarms, and for the identification of different phases of liquids within
seperation tanks.

In addition to instruments for permanent installation, there are also portable and Ex certified ultrasonic level control device versions available.

3. Special solutions

The flexibility of the Sonometer and Sonocontrol equipment means that it can be used for a great variety of other applications than
level measurement.

Sensors can be fitted to pipes in order to act as a wet / dry detector or used as part of a pig detection system for automated pipe cleaning.

Moreover, they can also be mounted on the bottom of large gas pipelines to detect and meter levels of condensate formation.
