Innovative Approach Proves Successful at Exhibitions

In order to better promote their clamp-on flowmeters and make their presence felt at three major exhibitions in 2007 Katronic Technologies took an innovative approach to promoting their stand.

At this years IWEX, Offshore Europe and Energy 2007 shows, visitors were offered the opportunity to participate in The Strap-On Challenge. As might be imagined, this raised an eyebrow or two and attracted some attention from passers-by however the task on offer was more innocent than might be thought.

In order to promote their KATflow range of non-invasive ultrasonic flowmeters the Challenge was to install one of the portable flowmeters in as quick a time as possible. In order make this more interesting the installation was done on a custom-built flow rig that enables the clamp-on meters to used under real conditions. This setup includes a system for aerating the liquid in order to demonstrate both the Transit-time and Doppler measurement functions available on the Katronic instruments in action.

Anyone wishing to attempt the challenge was offered a pair of latex gloves and given the chance to “wipe the pipe”. After some initial training, and an introduction to the “tube of lube” participants quickly overcame their surprise to post some very impressive times. One visitor to the Offshore Europe Exhibition even managed a sub-ten-second time of 9.13 seconds, proving just how easy to operate the Katronic flowmeters are.

The stand proved highly popular with both onlookers and participants and created a good deal of traffic to the exhibition stand. In true British style, at several times groups of people were queuing in order to see what everyone was looking at. The Strap-On Challenge was not just for amusement as there was a prize at stake for those willing to take part, the fastest time for each of the show days won a John Lewis voucher.
